The basics

What is funnel analysis?

3 steps to start
  1. 01Track the right events
  2. 02Create a funnel report
  3. 03Read conversion and drop-off

A funnel is a sequence of steps you expect people to complete. For example: visited pricing → signed up → created first project. Funnel analysis shows how many people complete each step and where they leave.

Most products lose a lot of people somewhere on the way. Without a funnel, you're guessing where. With one, you can see:

  • Step-by-step conversion: what share of people move from one step to the next
  • The biggest drop-off: the step that loses the most people
  • Differences between groups: whether mobile visitors or one campaign convert worse than the rest

In Pieowl, funnels are built directly on your events and page views. If you already track signup_started and signup_completed, you can turn them into a funnel in seconds. No funnel-specific code.

You choose the time window people have to finish the funnel, and whether to count within one session or across sessions for the same user. Save funnels to dashboards next to retention and other reports, or just ask your AI assistant over MCP: "Where do people drop off between pricing and signup?"

Funnels on every plan

What you can do with funnels

From first visit to purchase, funnels help you find and fix friction.

Funnels · 6 capabilities
  • Signup and onboarding funnels

Track visit → signup → first key action. See where new users stall and fix that step first.

  • Checkout and purchase funnels

Follow product page → cart → checkout → purchase. See which step loses the most buyers.

  • Event or page steps

Each step can be a custom event or a page view. Add property filters to a step, like a specific plan or URL.

  • Breakdowns

Split any funnel by device, country, referrer, campaign or your own properties. Compare groups side by side.

  • Conversion window

Decide how long people have to finish the funnel. Count steps within one session or across sessions for the same user.

  • Dashboards and AI answers

Pin funnels to a dashboard, share them by link, or ask your AI assistant about drop-off over MCP.

How funnel analysis works

Funnels in Pieowl use the events and page views you already track.

  1. 1

    Track the right events

Make sure each step is sent as an event or page view, for example signup_completed or project_created. No funnel-specific tracking needed.

  2. 2

    Create a funnel report

Add the steps in order and set the time window. Add filters or a breakdown, for example by campaign or device.

  3. 3

    Read conversion and drop-off

See how many people reached each step, the conversion between steps, and where the biggest drop happens. Fix that step first.

Use cases

Who uses funnel analysis

Teams use funnels to decide what to fix next.

  • Product and growth teams

Find the biggest drop-off in signup or activation, ship a fix, then check the same funnel to see if it worked.

  • Marketers

Compare funnel conversion by source or campaign. Spend more on channels that convert and fix landing pages that don't.

  • Founders and shop owners

See the whole path from visitor to paying customer in one report. No spreadsheets.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about funnel analysis with Pieowl.

Do I need to set up funnels separately from events?

No. You track events and page views once. A funnel just puts them in order. You can create or change a funnel at any time without touching your tracking code.

Can I filter or break down a funnel?

Yes. Add filters to a step, like a plan or a URL, and break the whole funnel down by device, country, referrer, campaign or any property you send.

How is funnel data counted?

Pieowl counts how many sessions or users completed each step in order within the time window you choose. You pick whether a funnel is counted per session or per user.

Can I ask my AI assistant about funnels?

Yes. Connect Claude, Cursor or another AI assistant over MCP and ask, for example: where do people drop off between pricing and signup this month? It runs the funnel in Pieowl and answers with the numbers.
